Another Direct Final Fantasy Sequel? FFXIII-2

I don't know how I feel about this.  The last time Square-Enix decided to take this route, we ended up with a very stupid campy and dumbed-down version of what was already a pretty poor entry in the Final Fantasy series.  To be honest, since FFIX, they've become more and more forgettable.

FFXIII-2 was recently announced at an event in Japan.  The trailer [in case you can't view it above] features XIII's main protagonist "Lightning" [aka Claire] narrating over scenes from the ending of the first installment [FFXIII]....

SN: I just thought about something:  I still have not finished FFXIII.  I got stuck on Prodclad 2 and just gave it up for about 7 months.  Picked it back up about a month ago, and now I'm stuck on the last dungeon.  Pretty close to Orphan, though.  I guess this just goes to show how forgettable the series has become.  When I was younger I would have the latest FF finished in 2 to 3 days.  Sigh.  


.... after the brief narration from lightning, we get a glimpse of her decked out in what looks to be Sigfried's armor from the Soul Calibur series.  In the typical Japanese manner, she is surrounded by what are either bird or angel feathers.  Then we catch a quick shot of a guy with black hair... then they start fighting, and then we get a shot of the new logo:

Who is this black haired guy [assuming that it's a guy... you know you can never tell with those FF characters.... Kuja?  Vaan?]  You know the logo always tells the story... who ever this is, he/she is going to play a big role.  I'll be following this one with anticipation.  But I'll be pretending not to care, just so that if SE fails me, I won't be let down......
