Steve Harvey on "REAL" Men

After seeing Steve Harvey on The View this morning (2/14/11) and his very offensive attitude toward gay men, my initial reactions to the news that Steve Harvey had even written a book about relationships were just reinforced.  Now, he may be from the old school and he may have been married for a number of years and have kids that are now in college and doing well for themselves, but that does NOT make Steve Harvey a relationship expert.  Nor does it make him a counselor, psychologist, or relationship therapist.  If anything, Harvey is only giving his advice based on his experiences, which is fine.  But let's not get confused.  He is no expert.

Where does this all come from?  That offensive attitude that I'm speaking of?

[I'm paraphrasing here because I can't rewind my TV]
Steve Harvey was trying to explain how men can't live without women.  He said something like "Ain't a man on this earth that can survive without one of yall" [referring to women in general] and then Joy Behar reminded Harvey that there are plenty of gay men who can get along just fine without a woman.  Steve Harvey then reiterated "no no, I'm talking about real men" [still paraphrasing].  Again, someone enforced the idea that gay men are real men and Steve was visible in his stance saying again "REAL MEN."

Some of the Twitter Backlash as the show aired.

He must have realized that he was on live TV and that he was just tarnishing his image further because then he flipped the ENTIRE script.  Sorry Steve [actually I'm not] but you showed your true colors and there's no erasing it.  But I don't know what is more sickening, the fact that you were so steeped in your belief of gay men not being real men, or the fact that when you realized that there would be any kind of backlash for you having your beliefs you put on a mask and [unsuccessfully] tried to do on the spot damage control.

Real men.... heh... don't get us started Steve.

Though I adamantly disagree with what he said, I would have had much more respect for his stance on "real" men if he had not attempted to "fix" it afterwards. "Real" men stand behind what they feel, regardless of the fall out. I guess men who go to work, take care of business, support kids that they never sired, & give back to a community that despises them aren't "real" men. Our prisons are filled with "real" men, and more are going every minute.

And if he was so real, hed be able to admit how much of a bastard he truly is and was to his ex wife. He did that woman dirty and was even having a long time affair with his current wife on his first wife. Steve is a dirt bag and I have no respect for him. As far as I am concerned, he can go lick a baboon's ass cause thats all he is good for.

TO me Steve Harvey is played out. I have since lost respect for him. He must feel that he being an adulterer is a real man. At least I can say that I am a Black Gay Man who holds his shit down and can be faithful. Put that in your pipe and smoke it!
